Furiously Inactive Games now has a studio journal. This is either a sensible place to collect our thoughts or an elaborate way to give ourselves another thing to update. Possibly both.
We make games, apps, and the occasional thing that doesn't fit neatly into either category. We Slay Monsters sends adventurers into dungeons. Timesheet Happens keeps track of work. Pink Pants Game asks you to notice someone else's questionable clothing choices. Mahjabble is a word puzzle game in development.
They don't have much in common on the surface. They do share a studio. We've written about that before on our old blog, which is still there if you'd like a look back. The old posts are staying put. From here on, we'll write here.
One studio, a few different directions
Each project should have its own home. If you want to know how combat works in We Slay Monsters, that explanation belongs on the We Slay Monsters site, not buried in a studio post between an app update and a discussion of pink trousers.
The FIG site brings those projects together. The journal gives us room for the things around them: what we're working on, why we made a particular choice, an experiment worth sharing, or something we learned the inconvenient way.
Sometimes an entry here will be a short introduction linking to a fuller article on a project's site. Sometimes the whole story will belong here. We'll try to make that distinction useful rather than make you read the same announcement twice.
Occasionally is doing some work
We're not promising a weekly dispatch. A posting schedule would be an optimistic opening move for a studio called Furiously Inactive Games.
We'd rather publish when we have something worth showing or saying. That might be a finished piece of work. It might be a small decision with a surprisingly long explanation. It might be an idea that didn't work, provided we can say something more interesting about it than “well, that didn't work.”
For now, this is the beginning: a place for the studio alongside the things it makes.
Have a look around. There are monsters, useful tools, and an outdoor game with a very limited dress code. We'll add to the journal when we have something to report.
